New Students Interested in the Department of Performing Arts
Welcome new students! Discover dynamic programs in music, theater, and dance at Georgetown University’s Department of Performing Arts!
Georgetown’s vibrant Department of Performing Arts scene includes the College’s undergraduate degree programs in American Musical Culture and Theater & Performance Studies; a minor in Performing Arts; dozens of academic and co-curricular performing groups in music, theater, and dance; and a wide range of courses including public speaking and Humanities: Arts, Literatures and Cultures (HALC) requirements in the Gen Ed.
You can also watch this previously recorded GU Department of Performing Arts webinar for admitted students, in which you’ll be introduced to some faculty, staff, and students and learn about the Music, Theater & Performance Studies, and Dance Programs.
If you haven’t already, please fill out this performing arts interest form to connect with us. For those wishing to participate in the virtual ensembles for New Student Convocation, including Choir, Orchestra, or Jazz Combos, check out the additional information directly below.
NSO Convocation – Choir/Orchestra and Jazz Combos Performance
As you may or may not be aware, the Fall 2020 New Student Orientation will take place virtually, regardless of the decisions made for on-campus operations and housing. New Student Orientation will be held on August 22-25, 2020, and program content will be accessible through a New Student Orientation “course” on your Canvas page (canvas.georgetown.edu). Parent and Family Orientation will occur on Saturday, August 22, and content will be accessible on the Family Engagement website.
While this may not have been the plan we had intended, the health and safety of all students, music directors, and staff remains the utmost priority. As an alternative, we are excited to announce that our music groups will be performing for the momentous occasion!
We will be preparing a recording of each music selection that will be edited together to sound as a single unified group. The respective Music Directors will contact each of you with music to learn, record, and submit for this recording. This process is familiar to our program, as we did the same for the Spring Graduation 2020. We found it to be a beautiful presentation during this virtual time.
We understand this announcement brings forth additional questions regarding move-in times and processes. For NSO purposes only, there will be no early move-in. The Office of Residential Living will be coming out with further information, if they have not already, on those processes.
There will be further information provided in the coming days and weeks through the New Student Orientation website, as well as our own Department of Performing Arts page.
Please view the information below for your specific ensemble group and the information requested to participate:
