Music for Cuba Exchange

Twelve Georgetown University Orchestra students and two faculty members participated in the first part of this exchange March 5-12, 2017 in Cuba, including daily rehearsals, sectionals and workshops with the Lyceum Mozartiano de La Habana teachers. The Lyceum musicians’ traveled to Georgetown University from April 16-24 as the second part of the exchange, featuring a culminating free joint concert on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 8 p.m. in GU’s Gaston Hall in Washington, D.C.

The musical program included Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 guest conducted by José Antonio Méndez Padrón, music director of Lyceum Mozartiano; and Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms conducted by Prof. Angel Gil-Ordóñez with the participation of GU’s Concert Choir (Prof. Frederick Binkholder, music director). 

The program was led by Prof. Gil-Ordóñez and supported by the Office of Global Services

In February 2020, the Lyceum musicians returned to Georgetown University for another residency program, during which they visited classes and performed a concert. The Feb. 21 Friday Music Series concert, performed alongside GU Orchestra students, featured music by Cuban composers.
