There are lots of ways to participate offstage, as well as onstage, whether you’re interested in creating in the scene shop or costume shop, participating in stage management, choreography, or other leadership roles in the Theater & Performance Studies Program season, Music Ensembles, Co-curricular club seasons and dance companies.
Scene Shop
To enroll in Scene Shop Practicum (TPST 100-01) contact our Technical Director, Holden Gunster at hg414@georgetown.edu
Co-curricular theater groups are also welcome to utilize the scene shop to create elements for their productions.
Costume Shop
To enroll in Sustainable Fashion & Costume (TPST 2290) contact our Costume Shop Manager and Assistant Professor of the Practice, Dorothy Driggers at db1422@georgetown.edu
Sustainable fashion and costume goes beyond understanding sustainability in clothing. Broken into two parts, this course teaches students design and sewing techniques that they will utilize to repair, alter and recreate existing garments. Through this hands-on experience students will be empowered to create their own sustainable wardrobes that reflect their personal style.
Production Techniques
To enroll in Production Techniques (Spring ’25), contact our Technical Advisor to Co-Curricular Theater, Callan Daniel at callan.daniel@georgetown.edu
Production Techniques introduces students to a wide variety of skills used in theatrical productions. With a focus on the basics, students will develop the foundation needed to support directors, designers, actors, and the production team to create the physical world of a stage production. Working through a variety of disciplines, this course will be taught through a combination of lecture and hands on “working days” where students get a chance to practice and develop a familiarity with the techniques we will discuss. Most importantly, students will acquire the tools necessary to work and effectively communicate in the theater world.
