The New Orchestra of Washington’s mission is to make music relevant to new generations of audiences through virtuosic performances that combine a diversity of genres with fresh interpretations of classic works. This program includes Elastic Band for clarinet, strings, and percussion (orchestra version commissioned by NOW) by Georgetown University music professor Joel Friedman, whose music has been praised by the New Yorker as “beautiful and intelligent”; Rush Hour, for amplified strings, clarinet and drum set by John Mackey; Imagine: Reimagined for clarinet, piano, and strings by Hernandez-Valdez; Soul Garden for viola solo and strings by Derek Bermel; and X Concerto for Clarinet and Strings by Scott McAllister.

Music Cities Convention
Music Cities Convention is the world’s first conference focusing on the relationship between city planning, strategy, development, and the music industry. Martin Elbourne, co-founder of The Great Escape, Europe’s leading festival for new music, global music market development agency Sound Diplomacy, and Future of Music Coalition founder emeritus Michael Bracy are bringing together top minds from municipalities, regions, academics, consultancies, and the music industry.
