Firebringer

Book by Matt Lang, Nick Lang, & Brian Holden
Music & Lyrics by Meredith Stepien & Mark Swiderski
Directed by Maddy Rice (COL ’20)

At the dawn of humanity, one tribe of cave-people survives the many trials of prehistoric life under the wise leadership of Jemilla, The Peacemaker. Jemilla taught her people to express themselves, rather than bashing each other’s heads with rocks and eating each other’s babies. But one member of the tribe doesn’t seem to fit in: Zazzalil. She’s always trying to invent things to make life easier… for herself. While out hatching her latest scheme, Zazzalil stumbles upon the most important discovery in history. One that will pit her tribe against woolly mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and change the world forever. In this hilarious musical comedy, she’ll travel from omega to alpha, and become… the Firebringer!

John

By Annie Baker
Directed by Timmy Sutton (COL ’20)

The week after Thanksgiving. A Bed & Breakfast in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A cheerful innkeeper. A young couple struggling to stay together. Thousands of inanimate objects, watching. A simple enough description, but Annie Baker’s fascinating play takes a look at what theatre can be and builds a world all its own. Baker’s hyper-realism bleeds into the eerily supernatural in this quiet tale, where actors and audiences alike delve into ideas of self, mortality, and the solitude of human experience.
