Chiaroscuro

Original work by Swedian Lie (COL ‘13)
Advised by Professors Derek Goldman and Maya E. Roth

Swedian Lie’s semi-autobiographical solo performance Chiaroscuro draws upon the experiences of a Chinese-Indonesian artist living abroad, contending with issues of identity, nationality, society and culture. Written, designed and performed by Lie, this work questions whether the risk of plunging into uncertainty is ultimately worth the freedom found in wandering the grey zone.

The two original thesis performances Wonder Land and Chiaroscuro, together comprising the event wanderland, offer bold and inventive explorations of identity along the tightrope between reality and fiction.
