Performing Groups
There are a number of ways to participate in dance at Georgetown. Perform. Choreograph. Work backstage. Take your pick, and join us!

This course focuses on developing skills in dance technique, choreography, performance, arts management, leadership, and community engagement through participation as members of the professionally directed Georgetown University Dance Company (GUDC). GUDC is a pre-professional concert repertory dance company performing works in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, improvisational, and modern techniques. The course consists of 3 hours of technique class per week and up to 12 hours per week of rehearsal. Choreography is created by students and professional guest choreographers. Auditions are held in September and performances are once per semester. Audition or by permission of instructor.
An engaging dance class designed to empower, educate, train and develop students in the performance skills of dance as members of Black Movements Dance Theatre (BMDT). BMDT is a contemporary modern dance company in which the artistic development fuses the mediums of dance and theater, to reflect the rich diverse traditions of the African-American experience through contemporary dance. Course content includes modern technique class (e.g. Horton, Dunham and Graham), with additional elements in African, ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance. Students work with faculty and professional guest artists exploring movement investigation, studio work and choreography for concert preparation. Students develop choreography for concert and studio presentations. Dancers must attend one professional concert and provide critical review. Enrollment in the course is audition based. Performance opportunities include two main stage concerts and ongoing performances. Audition or by permission of instructor.

This course offers continued development and understanding of modern dance as a performance art form. Course will examine technique and principles of modern dance focusing on movement, rhythm, dynamics, dance phrasing, articulation and choreography. The course applies intermediate principles of modern dance technique which includes a broad range of movement and music exploration. Placement on first day of class. Class location: Healey Family Student Center dance studio.
