ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF THEATER & PERFORMANCE STUDIES, GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY
Georgetown University seeks applicants for a new tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Theater & Performance Studies. We seek candidates who can bring research, teaching and/or production strengths that will assist in the delivery of our dynamic, well-recognized liberal arts major which highlights artistic and analytic rigor mutually, and which forges deep interdisciplinary connections. We welcome candidates in the following areas: global performance and/or world theater history, transnational or postcolonial theater, and/or intercultural performance. This can include theater or dance theater of American cultures, such as African-American theater; theater of the African Diaspora; performance as peace-building or theater in conflict zones; community-based performance or theater as social change; performance ethnography; or international dramaturgy, playwriting and/or new work development. In particular, we welcome candidates whose research informs, or is informed by, theater practice as well as scholarship, and who bring service and leadership strengths.
Teaching will include a balance of undergraduate core courses for the program and special topics in the candidate’s area/s of expertise. This faculty member will play an important role in student advisement and the Theater & Performance Studies Program’s home production season, or interdisciplinary special events, in the Royden B. Davis S.J. Performing Arts Center. This hire may participate in our partnerships with area communities as well as professional theaters or global organizations.
