Separated from his mother, a young refugee called Anon makes a journey, encountering a wide variety of people — some kind, some dangerous and cruel — as he searches for his family. From a sinister one-eyed butcher to beguiling barflies to a sweatshop, Anon must navigate through a chaotic, ever-changing landscape in this entrancing adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey. The creative team for this production features one of Washington DC’s most exciting theatrical couples: the husband/wife team of director Randy Baker, playwright and co-Artistic Director of Rorschach Theatre, whose directing has been praised for its “clever touches” and “intelligent mix of classicism and whimsy” (Washington Post) and Prof. Debra Kim Sivigny, Georgetown University Theater & Performance Studies Program artist-in-residence, who is providing both costume and scenic design for this production. Her work has been called “a banquet for the eyes” (Broadway World). This production is part of the Georgetown University Theater & Performance Studies Program’s 2016-17 season: Discover and Celebrate.

Wind Me Up, Maria!: A Go-Go Musical

Maria, a DC native and a rising senior at Georgetown, has a dilemma — it is the summer and she has not landed a job or an internship; and yet, all she wants to do is to write and perform Go-Go music. When she finally finds employment as a live-in tutor at a wealthy Georgetown household, she begins teaching the children about Go-Go. With its non-stop party groove fueled by congas, cowbells, timbales, and call-and-response interactions with the audience, Go-Go is the signature sound of DC. This musical will get you out of your seats and shaking your booty! The Phantom Tollbooth
This imaginative and family-friendly adventure follows a young boy, Milo, who drives his toy car through a magic tollbooth and ends up in the Land of Wisdom. There, he learns of the kingdom’s troubled history: the argument between King Azaz and his brother has led to the banishment of Princesses Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason to the Land of Ignorance. Milo, along with his colorful companions, is dispatched on a rescue mission to restore peace and prosperity. This adaptation is based on Norton Juster’s 1961 children’s book, called “a classic” by The New Yorker. This production is part of the Georgetown University Theater & Performance Studies Program’s 2016-17 season: Discover and Celebrate.

In the Next Room, or the vibrator play

Written by celebrated MacArthur Award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl, this Pulitzer Prize finalist play also received three 2010 Tony Award nominations for its Broadway production, including Best New Play. Set in a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor’s laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. This production wraps up the Georgetown University Theater & Performance Studies Program’s 2016-17 season: Discover and Celebrate. Adult content.
