ACADEMIC

General Auditions for CONCERT CHOIR & CHAMBER SINGERS

Audition dates/times:

Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 6:30 p.m.– 8:30 p.m.
Location: McNeir Auditorium, New North Building

Thursday, August 30, 2018 from  12 p.m.-5 p.m.
Friday, August 31, 2018 from 12-3 p.m. 
Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Location: New North Building, GE-02C

Preparation:
Voice Placement: The audition will consist of scales and sight-reading exercises; no literature need be prepared.

CHAMBER SINGERS Audition (prerequisite: a voice placement audition must be completed, see above).

Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 1 p.m.-4  p.m.
Monday September 3, 2018 from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.
Location: McNeir Auditorium, New North Building

Preparation: (Prerequisite – you must complete a general voice placement). The audition will consist of scales and sight-reading plus a performance of If Ye Love Me by Thomas Tallis with the returning members of Chamber Singers. Monday, September 3, 2018 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.   

Location:
New North Building, Studio A

Audition repertoire for all students:

  • A scale (for pianists: 4 octaves parallel scale; for string players: 3 octaves; for wind players: minimum 2 octaves)
  • A piece of your choice (could be performed with music or by memory, but bring a score for the committee)
  • Sight-reading excerpt to be selected by faculty.

TENOR SAXOPHONE

DRUMS/PERCUSSION

  • ​Percussionist should be prepared to play grooves in a variety of styles including but not limited to, funk, rock, samba, and bossa nova.
  • Sight Reading: All students will be given one short excerpt to sight read.

VOCALIST

Please prepare two contrasting pieces.  One of them MUST be “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me” by Duke Ellington.  The second song can be any song you’d like; the choice doesn’t have to be a song in a jazz style.  You may bring in a pianist to accompany you, a CD with an instrumental track, or sing a cappella.

GUILD OF BANDS

Audition dates/times: 
Wednesday and Thursday, August 29 and 30, 2018 from 7 p.m.-10 p.m.

Location:  
New North Building, Wenger Room/Studio D  
(Lower Level of the New North Building Studio D (check-in at Studio C) between Dahlgren Chapel and the Davis Performing Arts Center. Across the hall and downstairs from Old North.)

Preparation:
Auditions for this class are for pre-formed groups only, not individuals looking to join a band. All members must be present at the audition with prior experience on their respective instrument and in an ensemble setting.

Have one or more songs PREPARED to perform. Please bring your instruments and cables. We provide a sound system, electronic keyboard, guitar and bass amps and a drumset.
