Fugue

Written by Lee Thuna

Directed by Mark Camilli (COL ’19)

Produced by Sam Matta (COL ’19)

Mary Smith is found wandering in Chicago, her feet blistered and bloodied. Doctors immediately recognize her condition as fugue state amnesia, where a victim literally runs from her memories. A young psychiatrist is assigned to her case and given three weeks to work with her before she is put in a long term care facility. The closer he gets to piecing together the puzzle of her life and the terrible event that made her want to forget everything, the stronger is her urge to run. He is running from his own demons, and every step taken puts him in fear of repeating past mistakes. Lee Thuna’s enthralling play, Fugue, explores the intersection of love and loss in a world where there is no past and no future – or is there?

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot

Written by Stephen Adly Guirgis

Directed by Velani Dibba (SFS ‘17)

Produced by Bee Jaworski (COL ’17)
In present downtown Purgatory, an ambitious lawyer decides to appeal the case of Judas Iscariot and all eyes are on the stand. Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is both harrowing and uproariously funny as it examines one of the most controversial figures of Western history. With a swearing St. Monica and hilarious personal testimonies by the Apostles and Satan himself, Guirgis’ play is about humanity and the hope that each person has in doing what is right. A tale of pain, hope, betrayal and fate, Judas is a story of literal epic proportions. This production is offered in repertory with Black Theatre Ensemble’s Hookman.

By Susan Nanus

Based on a book by Norton Juster

Directed by Mollie Rodgers (COL ’17)

This imaginative and family-friendly adventure follows a young boy, Milo, who drives his toy car through a magic tollbooth and ends up in the Land of Wisdom. There, he learns of the kingdom’s troubled history: the argument between King Azaz and his brother has led to the banishment of Princesses Sweet Rhyme and Pure Reason to the Land of Ignorance. Milo, along with his colorful companions, is dispatched on a rescue mission to restore peace and prosperity. This adaptation is based on Norton Juster’s 1961 children’s book, called “a classic” by The New Yorker.
