Co-curricular Theater Groups
The Mask & Bauble Dramatic Society
The Mask & Bauble Dramatic Society, established in 1852, distinguishes itself as the oldest continuously running college theatre group in the United States. Mask & Bauble (M&B) works to produce high quality theatre using a collaborative process. The group produces five shows a year, conducting auditions approximately six weeks before each performance. The season traditionally includes musicals, dramas, comedies, and classics. In the spring, Mask & Bauble also produces the annual Donn B. Murphy One-Act Play Competition and Festival, in which student-written plays are submitted, judged, and produced. Click here to visit the new M&B website. Click here for the 2009-2010 season. The Black Theatre Ensemble
Established in 1979, The Black Theatre Ensemble (BTE) is dedicated to producing dramatic works that celebrate and enrich the Black American cultural heritage, and expand and challenge the discourse on the Black experience. In addition to fully staged productions, BTE organizes several “coffeehouses” throughout the year. These provide a forum for students to express self and share perspective through song, dance, and poetry. Click here for the 2009-2010 season.
Nomadic Theatre
Nomadic Theatre is a co-curricular troupe that provides exciting opportunities both on and off the stage. Since 1982, they have produced plays that educate and challenge all members of the university community through thought-provoking theater. Nomadic’s logo, a caravan of camels, symbolizes the company’s migratory behavior as they perform in a variety of campus spaces throughout the year. From quirky comedies to introspective dramas, join the “Nomads” for a truly moving theatrical experience. Click here for the 2009-2010 season.
Georgetown Players
Founded in 1995, the Georgetown Players are comprised of the Georgetown Players Improv Group (G-PIG) and the Children’s Theater Company. G-PIG specializes in long-form skits and each season sponsors ImprovFest, a two-day festival of improvisational comedy. Children’s Theater produces one show each semester and tours at hospitals and schools in the DC area where children might not otherwise be exposed to theater. Click here for the 2009-2010 season.
