Within the Department

The department offers advanced interdisciplinary seminars and programming initiatives that build upon strong collaborative faculty relationships.

Dr. Korczak and The Children

The Program teamed with Nomadic Theatre on “Dr. Korczak and The Children,” a play based on the real events of sheltering Warsaw orphans in Nazi Germany. The March 2006 show also featured a panel discussion with Daniel Blatman of the Holocaust Museum and a photographic exhibit.

Caroline, or Change

Academic programs Georgetown University Music Program and the Theater & Performance Studies Program joined forces with student-run ensembles Mask & Bauble and the Black Theatre Ensemble to present “Caroline, or Change” in November 2009, with the largest team of student, faculty, and staff ever to work on a theatrical production at Georgetown.

Hydrogen Jukebox

In January 2009, students performed the opera “Hydrogen Jukebox” by composer Philip Glass and beat poet Allen Ginsberg, as a collaboration between Georgetown University and American Opera Theater.

Wind Me Up Maria! A Go-Go Musical

Wind Me Up Maria! A Go-Go Musical in November 2016 featured DC’s own percussion-driven go-go music, an offshoot of funk, in this new work created by Professor Natsu Onoda Power and Charles “Shorty Corleone” Garris, and lead singer of DC Go-Go band Rare Essence. The work was presented by the Georgetown University Theater & Performance Studies Program with student groups Mask & Bauble Dramatic Society and Black Theatre Ensemble as part of the Davis Center’s 2016-17 season.

Polk Street

Polk Street, based on Polk Street Stories by Joey Plaster, was produced in March 2013 by two GU student drama societies (Mask & Bauble and Nomadic Theatre). The Theater & Performance Studies Program later presented it at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in a staged reading as part of the 2015 Page-to-Stage Festival.
