Prospective Students
Should you decide to attend Georgetown, you'll be getting a letter over the summer inviting you to the Performing Arts Open House where you can meet all of the student leaders and professional staff. The Open House is usually the day before classes begin.
Music at Georgetown University
The Music Program at Georgetown is distinctive for its emphasis on the study of the performing arts as both a creative activity within contemporary society and a cultural manifestation of multiculturalism in the American World. The Music Program consists of courses, degree programs, and a wide variety of student-run and professionally-led groups and ensembles operated by the Department of Performing Arts.
Music Degrees
The major in American Musical Culture is designed for students interested in pursuing careers and/or graduate study in: American studies, arts management, cultural criticism, entertainment law, media studies, music journalism or musicology. Performing Groups
For students interested in performing music at Georgetown, there's a great variety of academic ensembles (which award college credit) and co-curricular groups (including student-run vocal groups and pep band). View a complete listing of ensemble offerings.
Music Lessons
Lessons are available to all students in most instruments through the Levine School of Music at its Northwest DC Campus (Upton Street).
Practice Rooms
Practice rooms are available. Students taking music lessons or enrolled in music courses are given first priority, but after the third week of the semester, rooms are available to all the performing arts students and then to the general student body.
