17th Century Sacred Songs from Italy, Featuring Works by Barbara Strozzi and Claudio Monteverdi

MarkandJennifer

Date: Wed., April 18 @ 6:00 PM
Location: Gonda Theatre

Soprano Jennifer Ellis and harpsichordist Mark Janello transport the listener to 17th century Italy with a selection of music by Barbara Strozzi and Claudio Monteverdi. As one of the leading interpreters of the Baroque repertoire, Jennifer Ellis "offers a freshness of voice, fineness of timbre, and ease of production that place her in the front rank of early-music sopranos," (andante.com). Mark Janello, Professor of Music Theory at Peabody Conservatory, is a founding member of the early music ensemble 'E17' with Kiri Tollaksen, cornetto and Lorna Hildebrandt, soprano. The Ann Arbor News described his improvisational technique as "an astonishing... display." Together they will perform sacred music from the Christian tradition, which flourished in the Italian renaissance.
