Buddhist Welcome and Beginning of Mandala Sand Painting

Join monks of the Tibetan Drepung Loseling Monstery as they begin work on an intricate sand painting called a mandala. In this ancient, meditative artform, millions of grains of sand are painstakingly laid into place over several days to create sacred spiritual symbols and designs that are used to re-consecrate the earth and its inhabitants.
To mark the opening of The Children of Abraham Interfaith Arts Festival, the monks will also sanctify The Davis Performing Arts Center with multi-phonic singing, music and mantra recitation.
