Irina Brown
Director
Irina, Staff Director at the National Theatre in England, began her career as an assistant to the great Russian director Yuri Lubimov. She moved to England in 1978 where she established herself as a prominent theatre director with interests ranging from the experimental to the popular. From 1996 until 2000 she was rtistic Director of the Tron Theatre in Glasgow, where she developed and premiered award-winning new work by such writers as David Grief and Zinnie Harris.
A senior lecturer at Machester Metropolitan University School of Theatre and Visiting Professor at the British American Dramatic Academy, she was artist in residence at UC Davis in 2004. Timberlake Wertenbaker and Irina Brown met when Irina returned to Russia to direct Our Country's Good at Tabaknov Theatre, Moscow, and they began working on JENUFA in the summer of 2005.
