Georgetown University Dance Company Home | About GUDC | Membership | Community Service Who Are We? Georgetown University Dance Company (GUDC), the oldest dance organization on campus established in l974, is a pre-professional concert repertory dance company that performs diverse works in classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, indigenous, hip hop and tap. Supervised by Faculty Artistic Director, Miya Hisaka, GUDC, a self presenting organization, focuses on technique classes and performances and develops arts administration, production and leadership in its members. Technique classes, taught by faculty and/or guest teachers, are offered to company members every Tuesday and Thursday evenings in ballet, modern or jazz. There is an additional 3-12 hours per week of rehearsals in preparation for the Companies bi-annual performance season. The guest choreographers program brings in international, national and local professionals in the creation of original works with the Company such as David Parsons, Robert Battle, Dana Tai Soon Burgess, Francisco Castillo among others. Every Fall and Spring, the Company presents a performance with works by guest choreographers and student members. In addition to performing, the Company also has a very active outreach program which provides students with the opportunity to teach, perform and work with GU’s Lombardi Cancer Center as well as other local community/service organizations and schools. Admittance into the company is based on an annual audition held every September of the school year where students are taught a class and given combinations in a ballet, modern and jazz. The selection process is rigorous, normally accepting 8-10 new members out of some 45 students auditioning each year. Georgetown University offers one academic credit to those full-time undergraduate students.
