THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS

Conceived and Adapted by Lee Breuer
Music Composed by Bob Telson
Directed by Isaiah Wooden
Musical Direction Stanley Thurston

A musically rich and lyrical adaptation of the Sophoclean tragedy, The Gospel at Colonus stages the story of Oedipus' final days in the context of a Pentecostal Service. Part ritual, part theatrical experience, part religious event, the production celebrates the redeeming power of love and the sense of oneness found in community. Poetic storytelling and lively Gospel music, tempered by the coolness of Greek tragedy results in potent civic and cathartic theatre. The Gospel at Colonus is a collaboration between the Theater Program and Black Theater Ensemble.

Oct 12-14 at 8, Oct 15 at 2; Oct 18-21 at 8 in the Gonda Theatre

EXPRESSIONS: THE BROTHERS

Written by Kathleen Collins
Directed by Raphaella M. Poteau (COL '07)

A bold memory drama that recounts the story of the Edwards sons, who spend their entire lives trying to jump out of their own skin and escape the "Negro void." Provocatively told through the eyes of their sister, step-mother and wives, the show explores the complexities of what it truly means to be Black in America.
