Karen Berman, MFA
Adjunct Professor
Karen Berman holds an M.F.A. in Directing from Catholic
University. She teaches Acting I and ll and Improvisation
for Social Change among other courses, and completed her
eighth year as Artistic Advisor to Georgetown student performance
groups. As Director of SourceCast Karen cast some 400 Washington
area actors in commercials, industrials and films, and has
served as Associate Producer at Source Theatre for over eight
years. Karen also collaborated with David Young on the book
How to Direct a Musical: Broadway Your Way, published by
Routledge. Karen serves as Vice President for Advocacy for
the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. She has
directed over fifty productions for venues ranging from the
Smithsonian to off-Broadway. Her off-Broadway credits include,
at the American Theatre of Actors, Ziggy and Ballet Russes,
which starred Twyla Tharp Company member Petter Jacobsson.
In the Washington area she has directed productions for Source
Theater, American University, Catholic University, and JeRM
Productions, as well as videos of original plays for Time
Warner Television.
