NADINE GEORGE-GRAVES, Ph.D.
Nadine George-Graves earned her Ph.D. from Northwestern University. Her work is situated at the intersection of African American studies, feminist studies, theatre history, and dance history. She is the author of The Royalty of Negro Vaudeville: The Whitman Sisters and The Negotiation of Race, Gender, and Class in African American Theater, 1900-1940, and her second book Working It Out with Urban! Bush Women is forthcoming. She is also a gifted professional artist with extensive experience and training as an actor, director, dancer, choreographer, and playwright. Recent projects include dance/theater productions of Calvino's Invisible Cities and the writings of Eduardo Galleano, as well as directing several dramatic works by Suzan Lori Parks. Before coming to Georgetown, she was a professor at Yale University and UCSD.
