Ronald J. Lignelli
Managing Director, Program in Performing Arts
Ron was the Director of Performing Arts at Georgetown University from 1985-2003. In the fall of 2003, after the merger of his office with the academic performing arts program, he became the Managing Director of the Program in Performing Arts. Currently, he oversees 20 student performing arts groups including 4 theater groups, 5 dance groups and 11 music groups. In addition to directing the performing arts, Ron had also simultaneously served as the Director of the GU Band during his first 3 years here on campus. While at Georgetown, Ron has served on numerous committees including the following: Performing Arts Center, Academic Theater Space Advisory Committee, Faculty and New Student Convocation, Diversity Working Group, GU President's Inauguration, Martin Luther King Observance, Sept. 11th Observance, SWQ Residence Hall– Culture and Performance Living-Learning Community, among many others.
Ron's background is in music education ( Univ. of Conn. ), where he majored on the Bass Trombone. He has taught music several years in the public schools in his native Connecticut . He holds a graduate degree in Arts Management from The American University. During his time in Washington , he has worked with the National Endowment for the Arts as a Fellow, and with the Kennedy Center 's Education Dept. One of Ron's passions includes musical theater, where he has appeared many times in front of and behind the footlights. Occasionally, Ron wears the additional hat of Executive Producer of JeRM Productions (a Georgetown University theater alumni community-theater group, formally known as the GU Summer Theater) where he has produced and music directed such musicals as Man of La Mancha, Chicago, Working, Drood, Candide, Cabaret, South Pacific, Grease, Anything Goes, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Evita, A Chorus Line, Godspell, Threepenny Opera and other plays and reviews. He is an avid college basketball fan (men's and women's), following his two favorite school programs (Georgetown and UCONN). Ron is the proud father of two wonderful sons, Brian who is a senior at Georgetown University (fall 2007), and Andrew, a junior at Montclaire State University in New Jersey.
